Holy shit I’m lazy I don’t even know the last time I posted. Much has happened in that short span of time. New tattoos coming, life changes, new job etc.
Anywho I though I would post one of my favourite local bands from Edmonton of course…. SNIC!!!!
I believe when these guys first started out they were more of a jazzy rock band… I only saw them a couple times back them but through the years they consistently started to get heavier and more spastic which is something I completely love
Now they are one of the coolest sounding hardcore bands in the Edmonton music scene and really i don;t even know who to compare them to as they are very unique band.
Here is their about me section on myspace.
“In those very last days before the snicpit was demolished in late November 2007, snic gathered in its grimy quarters, lit candles and secretly recorded an album.
The entire six-song, sixteen minute record was recorded in one continuous live take. Two takes of vocals, again performed continuously through all songs, followed. No overdubs were committed to tape – this is just a recording of three guitars, a bass and a drum kit performed live.
The album was mixed by the band with assistance from Real Cardinal, and was mastered by Nick Zampiello (Converge, Backstabbers Inc, Gaza, Old Man Gloom, Modern Life is War, Trap Them) at New Alliance East in Cambridge, MA.
10” vinyl by XTRUEX Records later this summer. Pre-order information available soon.”
I suppose these guys can be included in my blog they have hardcore influences and well I don’t really give a shit I like them so…. you should to!
Set Your Goals are a Pop-Punk/Hardcore band from San Francisco, USA. Their band name comes from CIV’s first album, “Set Your Goals” which features ex-members from Gorilla Biscuits.
Here is a quick bio on them that I found on the web, it actually has a lot of info on them.
“Set Your Goals released their first self-titled EP on Straight On Records in May 2004. After signing with Eulogy Recordings, they re released that EP under the name Reset on April 11, 2006. Their first full length album, Mutiny! was released on July 11, 2006. In the Spring of 2007, they were support on Anti Flag‘s headlining tour along side Alexisonfire and Big D and The Kids Table. Set Your Goals released an acoustic version of their track ‘Echoes’ for the Punk Goes Acoustic 2 compilation on Fearless Records this past summer, 2007. They also covered Lil Jon’s “Put Yo Hood Up” for the Fearless Records compilation Punk Goes Crunk, released in April 2008. In the Spring of 2008 they played on the Bamboozle Roadshow with Saves The Day, Armor For Sleep, Valencia, Metro Station, Lydia, and A Cursive Memory. At the Bamboozle Set Your Goals played a special set with Vinnie from I Am The Avalanche consisting of songs from Vinnie’s previous band, The Movielife. Recently they have released a new song entitled “The Fallen” through the social networking sites Trig and MySpace. This Summer, 2008, they will be on the entire Vans Warped Tour on the Smartpunk Stage. They are set to be main support to New Found Glory on the UK Easy Core tour later in the year.”
Since 2004 the band has released 5 albums, two of them being demo’s. In 2009 they plan to release a new record which is rumoured to be a self-release (DIY).

+ another
Probably one of the most talented bands I’ve heard recently. I probably should have made these guys my very first blog post as they are well…. FUCKING AMAZING!
United Nations are a “emo-power-violence” band as they like to call them selves which I find is every suiting. Also when I say emo I don’t mean shitty shit that you hear today im going back to real emo like botch and bands like that. They currently reside in New York, New York, United States. Currently they won’t release the actual members of the band as most members contracts won’t allow them to, but guess what I have a list of members!
Geoff Rickly
Daryl Palumbo
Ben Koller
Those should be the correct ones as of right now but there is speculation of who is actually in the band with many other hardcore prospects. I do have a hunch that Darryl Jenifer of “Bad Brains” could be with them.
Well here is what their Bio say’s it does have a lot more info on them.
“The band was started by Daryl Palumbo, vocalist of Glassjaw and Head Automatica, and Geoff Rickly, the vocalist/lyricist of the band Thursday. Other artists involved in the project possibly include Ben Koller, drummer for Converge; Christopher “Chree” Conger, former drummer of The Number 12 Looks Like You; bassist Eric Cooper of Made Out of Babies; and Jonah Bayer of The Lovekill. However, due to contract obligations of all members except Rickly, the official lineup isn’t well-known, with the exception of Rickly and Palumbo. Since Rickly is the only member whose primary band is currently not under contract, his name is the only one that can legally appear in press materials. Press photos of the band released in 2008 depict 4 people wearing Ronald Reagan masks.
The band will release their self-titled debut on September 9, 2008 through Eyeball Records. Only 1,000 physical CDs were pressed and will be sold exclusively through the Eyeball Records webstore due to copyright issues with the album’s cover. The cover features essentially the same photo used for the iconic cover of The Beatles’ Abbey Road, with the exception of The Beatles engulfed in flames and walking to the left rather than the right.
The band plans to follow up their debut with a 7-inch single on Deathwish Inc. titled Never Mind the Bombings, Here’s Your Six Figures, which may potentially face similar copyright issues due to the title and cover’s parodying of the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. In an interview with MTV, Rickly confirmed that the band already had enough material for a second full-length album that could see a release in early 2009.”

Go and check out Avenue Theatre this weekend for their grand opening!
Yes they used to be known as Avenue Skatepark which had the mega wooden bowl known as the blood bowl. Now they are a fully finished Music Venue. It looks pretty killer inside to.
